Key Responsibilities:

The Advocacy Adviser is part of the WVSR communications and advocacy department, which leads all communications, advocacy efforts, and engagements as part of WV’s Syria Response in Jordan, Syria and Türkiye. The purpose of the role is to:

Improve the well-being of children in the areas of operation.

Increase the reputation as a thought leader of the Syria Response, both internal and external.

Facilitate the external engagement of the Syria Response.

Ensure successful implementation of advocacy activities and initiatives in alignment with Syria’s Response and Regional office strategies and in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Provide support for initiatives at national, regional and global levels, this includes communication and advocacy capacity building to respond to organizational requests and needs related to advocacy efforts within the framework of the Syria response and in support of local partners.

Support the communications and advocacy manager at all levels of external representation and policy engagements, while also occasionally contributing to communications efforts according to the needs.

1. Development & Management of Advocacy activities

Support the development of advocacy proposals and initiatives for internal and external donors that align to the various strategies and with overall donor expectations, including the yearly advocacy strategy

Ensure implementation of advocacy activities and initiatives and feed into grant proposals when needed while also monitoring progress

Prepare, submit or review both internal and external advocacy or policy reports according to the needs

2. Strategic support and capacity building for advocacy

Update the ASM and all relevant log frames for advocacy progress tracking at NO and RO levels

Organize and facilitate internal advocacy training for WV staff and external training for partners

Coordinate advocacy-related publications, including reports, unique research, and case studies, which provide evidence of lessons, outcomes and impacts of advocacy and communications programming.
Attend WV meetings linked to advocacy at national, regional and global levels for internal coordination

3. Support to communications and advocacy manager position at all levels of external engagement, overall policy efforts, and occasional communications support

Contribute to SIRF initiatives and provide inputs for collective advocacy discussions and statements Attend and contribute to NLG meetings, including advocacy working group meetings and MHPSS meetings.

The advocacy officer represents World Vision as co-chair of NLG Support communications and advocacy manager with all networking and representation efforts linked to communications and advocacy according to the need Support with communications efforts (mainly proofreading, editing, story writing) when needed.

Required Professional Experience

A minimum of three years experience in international development, including advocacy

Experience managing and implementing advocacy campaigns and initiatives

Experience writing and producing evidence-based reports and other English language communication resources or publications

Coordination of geographically dispersed teams and ‘virtual’ facilitation

A high degree of self-initiative and self-governance

Excellent English speaking and writing skills

High social awareness, team orientation and relational maturity

Understanding of fundamental human rights and advocacy principles

Builds collaborative relationships

Inquisitive and intellectual honesty

Preferred Experience

Experience working with government, donors, INGOs, NGOs and UN agencies directly or indirectly

Seeks practical results

Social entrepreneurial spirit involving innovation and creativity

Service-oriented towards NOs and team members

Education

Master’s degree in law, international relations, politics, development studies, or a related field.

Travel

Ability to travel 10% of the time.

Languages

Proficient Knowledge of Arabic and English languages required.
